A souped-up sports car went out of control and hit a highway engineering vehicle near Pik Uk prison around 8:30 am this morning.
The car was being driven along Clear Water Bay Road towards Kowloon when the driver lost control near the prison. It hit a highway engineering vehicle parked on the side of the road and hit the hillside before stopping.
The driver of the sports car was injured and trapped in the car, and was rescued by Fire Services and sent to United Hospital by ambulance. About 10 metres of brake marks were left on the roadway.
The sports car involved was shipped from the factory in 1999, and it was recorded for the first time in Hong Kong in June this year. It is thought that the car seats, wheels, exhaust pipes and the engine had been modified to improve performance.
