Man of many talents can be seen about town pursuing his love of art

Relatively new resident Matthew White is a man of many talents. Barrister, arbitrator and painter, he is also husband of Amanda Wilson, whose family is well-known in Sai Kung as founders of Ali-Oli. Matthew is devoted to his art and you may see him sitting in Man Yee Square, sketching town scenes.

An Australian, Matthew moved to Sai Kung two years ago after his wife was appointed to a senior regional role at Citibank. They live at Mount Pavilia, which he describes as “like living in the Truman Show. It’s all brand new and artificial. But we like the views and the dog friendliness.”

Matthew has not been admitted as a barrister here because “There is a barrier to entry, I’d have to sit exams which are basically another law degree, but I am permitted to act as an arbitrator or counsel in arbitrations.” He has qualified as Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and is a member at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.

And he will pursue his art. Matthew said he is mainly self taught but did study at Sydney’s Julian Ashton Art School. If you interested in buying Matthew’s art or getting advice from the barrister and arbitrator email msmwhitesc@gmail.com
