Green Egg Island, Sai Kung
Taking advantage of the holiday weekend and the hot weather many tourists visited the Sai Kung Country Parks over the weekend. And, as is becoming more common these days, many accidents have been reported by the police.
Around 2:30 pm Saturday (12/6), police received a report saying that a 41-year-old man had disappeared while swimming five metres offshore on Green Egg Island and was suspected of having drowned. Marine Police were rushed to the scene, and they found a body floating nearby. He was pulled from the water but confirmed dead at the scene. The body was taken to a nearby pier and then sent to the mortuary. An autopsy will be conducted later to examine the cause of death.
In addition, on Sunday (13/6), there were also two hiking accidents. Around 1:00 pm a 70-year-old woman and her friend went on a hiking trip to Cheung Sheung. She slipped and fell. Her friend called the police for help. Government Flying Service helicopters were called to rescue her and she was sent to Eastern District Hospital for treatment.
At 3:30 pm, a 65-year-old man was suspected of having heat stroke and dizziness while visiting Sharp Island. He had to be sent to Eastern District Hospital for treatment by helicopter.
Canoers after being rescued in Clear Water Bay
On Monday (14/6) a canoeing accident occurred in Clearwater Bay. At about 3:00 pm several men and women went canoeing in Lobster Bay. They were overturned due to high wind and waves. Four of them fell into the sea. Receiving a report of the accident a police launch and a fireboat rushed to the scene to search and rescue. All four people were rescued. When ashore some of the rescued people felt unwell. They were sent by the police launch to the Marine Police Base opposite Sai Kung and delivered by ambulance to the hospital for check up. After initial investigation by the police, it is believed that the incident is not suspicious.
