Car catches fire in Sai Kung multi-storey car park

A parked vehicle caught fire in Sai Kung this afternoon (25/7). A private car parked at the Sai Kung Town Villa parking lot at No. 22-40 Fuk Man Road, suddenly burst into flames at about 3:00 pm and soon the fire engulfed the entire car and spread to another private car nearby. Raging black smoke rose from the flames and continued to billow up along the outer wall of the building.

Many residents smelled the smoke and called the police. Firefighters were called to the scene, dispatched a breathing apparatus team to fight the blaze, and also sent a search and rescue team to evacuate residents and to search for trapped persons. The fire was put out after about half an hour. No casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be investigated. 

During the incident the shops on the ground floor of the building, including ParkNShop and the Jockey Club were evacuated.
