A dash-cam video is circulating on the Internet showing two motorbikes connected by a rope careening along Hiram’s Highway in Sai Kung yesterday afternoon (20/2).
The video shows two motorbikes travelling out of Sai Kung passing the Esso petrol station about 1:00 pm. One of the motorbikes was tied to the rear of the other being towed by a rope. The driver of the front bike kept stepping on the ground, trying to balance the vehicle. The two bikes swayed left and right on the road, clearly a danger to others and themselves. Later, the two vehicles crossed the double white line and stopped. In the end, the dashcam car passed by slowly. It is unknown what the final destination of the two motorcycles was, After the clip was circulated, it caused controversy among netizens.
According to Regulation 49 of the Road Traffic (Traffic Control) Regulations, Chapter 374G of the Laws of Hong Kong, no person shall drive a motor vehicle on the road which is towing any other vehicle unless the vehicle being towed has a “ON TOW” and a sign with the word “trailer”, and each English letter and Chinese character must be at least 150mm high, must be white in colour, and the sign must be on a dark background; no motor cycle or disabled vehicle towing a trailer is allowed on the road.
