Cyclist knocked down and seriously injured on Hiram’s Highway

A traffic accident occurred in Sai Kung yesterday afternoon (30/4). At about 5:20 pm a 60-year-old man was riding a bicycle along Hiram’s Highway towards Kowloon and was approaching Cheng Chek Chee Secondary School when he was hit by a car. He suffered injuries to his head, hands and feet and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a coma by ambulance. He was listed as being in critical condition on arrival at hospital.

After the incident, the bicycle fell in the centre of the road in the direction of Tseung Kwan O, and the car involved was parked in the traffic lane in the direction of Kowloon, with the front windshield cracked and dented. The injured person’s shoes and helmet were left behind at the scene, and there was a small amount of blood on the ground. The police officers were on the scene to investigate the cause of the incident.

The police said that at the time of the incident, the car was traveling south along the Hiram’s Highway, and it was suspected of hitting a bicycle going south along the road. The 34-year-old car driver had an alcohol test with a zero result. He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is currently being detained for investigation.
