
The whale carcass seen floating off Shelter Island Photos: HK01
Since the sighting of a whale in Sai Kung in the middle of this month, its whereabouts and health status have attracted much attention. A boatman provided photos and videos to “Hong Kong 01” today see below. One of the 10-second videos showed a suspected whale turning over on its side and floating in the sea.
In another video about 7 seconds long, a boatman approaches the “whale carcass”. The whale floated motionless and was suspected to be dead.

The police said that at 10:46 this morning (31/7), they received a report that a whale carcass was found in the south of Shelter Island, Sai Kung.

It is unclear if the dead mammal is a Bryde’s whale first spotted in Hong Kong waters on 13 July and recently seen with cuts on its back.
