Two swimming incidents occurred in Sai Kung waters on Friday (27/10). This adds to the increasing number of such incidents since the relaxing of the Covid restrictions. At 10:35 am Friday, a female swimmer was found floating in the sea off Clear Water Bay Second Beach, Sai Kung. She was rescued by on-site lifeguard personnel and sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital in a comatose state. She is now in stable condition. The 85-year-old victim was found floating unconscious outside the anti-shark net between the First and Second beaches by another swimmer.

Later the same afternoon around 2:00 pm a 58-year-old man was found floating off Ung Kong Chau , Sai Kung. He was unconscious when he was rescued and taken to the Wan Chai helipad by the Government Flying Service, and then transferred by ambulance to Ruttonjee Hospital for emergency treatment, where he was pronounced dead at around 4:00 pm.

According to media reports, the deceased and his friends chartered a boat from Sai Kung Pier to the Ung Kong Chau bay area for snorkelling and arrived at the waters at about 11:30 am. At 2:30 pm, friends who were travelling with him discovered that he was missing, so they searched around and found that he was floating on the sea surface. They took him to the beach and called the police for help.
