Police reported that the Tseung Kwan O Police District Field Patrol Team found a person believed to be a burglary suspect in a bush on the hillside west of Hebe Knoll in Sai Kung on Tuesday (12/12). They also found hoods and a sharp knife. A number of red ribbons tied to trees were also found nearby, which was consistent with the police’s earlier searches on the hillside near Ta Ku Ling New Village and the hillside north of Pik Shui New Village. The red ribbons found were identical and were believed to be used by the same criminal group to mark routes to sneak into nearby housing estates to commit burglaries. The relevant items have been handed over to the Tseung Kwan O Police District Intelligence Team for follow-up investigation.
Masks, red ribbons and a knife were found in the hideout
The police emphasised that additional officers in uniforms, civilian clothes and field patrols will be deployed to patrol the jungle, and called on citizens and security personnel to report to the police immediately if they find unusual signs or markings on hillsides or jungles near their residences; and if citizens see any of the above-mentioned red ribbons, the police should be contacted with the information. Households, domestic helpers and neighbours should “report any suspicious noises or activities immediately” if they find any suspicious noises or activities in their vicinity.
They also found multiple red ribbons tied to trees nearby
In addition, the police also called on the public to pay attention to the surrounding environment, especially housing estates built on hills, saying that criminals may use the jungle on the hillside as cover to sneak into the units along the hillside to burglarise; citizens should install smart closed-circuit television systems with facial recognition functions.
