A bus caught fire in Sai Kung yesterday (20/12) afternoon. A Citybus went up in flames near a parking lot on Tai Mong Tsai Road. Passers-by and the bus driver involved called the police when they saw the incident. The fire was extinguished when the fire fighters arrived at the scene.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. As can be seen from an online video, the rear of the Citybus caught fire and became more intense with a large amount of thick smoke rolling into the air. Police and fire fighters are investigating the cause of the fire. Initial suspicions focus on a short circuit in the electrical wiring.
Citybus responded to media enquiries stating that at about 3:00 pm a Citybus non-franchised bus bound for Pak Tam Chung Bus Terminal arrived at Tai Mong Tsai Road. The captain noticed smoke coming from the rear of the bus, and reported to the control centre. Citybus said the bus was not carrying passengers at the time and is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
