Bart’s Bash will be staged at the Hebe Haven Yacht Club on 14 September in aid of Sai Kung’s own charity, Sailability. Dinghy racing starts at 11:00 am and goes on until 4:00 pm. At 11:30 am cruiser owners will race to Yan Ley restaurant for a seafood lunch washed down with lots of beer. As it’s a fundraiser the public is invited to the usually members-only club on the day. The bars and restaurants will be open to you, family and friends. It will be a colourful event where you’ll have a chance to meet Sai Kung’s great and good.
The Bash is an annual event taking place now in 63 countries. It is named after Andrew “Bart” Simpson, an Olympic gold medalist, who believed everyone should be able to enjoy the beauty of sailing.
Cue Sailability. This charity, created in Sai Kung by the star couple Kay and the late Mike Rawbone, has given sailing experiences to about 25,000 physically and mentally disabled people since 2009. Now Sailability has extended its offering of a day’s fun on the sea to seniors, ethnic minorities and low income people.
Sailability needs volunteers to help on the day and donations to help pay the never-ending bills. To learn how you can help or donate go to www.sailabilityhk.com Why don’t you set up a monthly donation of, say, $100? Sailability is Sai Kung’s own home-grown charity doing marvellous work to enhance the lives of the under-privileged.
