Around 8:00 pm last night (4/8), two men went to Little Palm Beach, Clear Water Bay, Sai Kung to go night diving and catch crabs, carrying a homemade breathing machine. They agreed to come ashore around 11:00 pm, but when one of them came ashore, he did not see his companion, and, suspecting that he was missing, called the police for help around midnight.
Firefighters and marine police responded to the call and found the 40-year-old in the sea about 500 metres away from their agreed landing point. After investigation, it was confirmed that the person had been snorkelling and had not come ashore. The person swam back to shore on their own, put on a blanket provided by the rescuers, and boarded the ambulance for examination without needing to be taken to the hospital. It turned out to be a false alarm, and the rescuers gradually returned to base.
The victim told the media present that he and his companions often went snorkelling and crabbing at the location in the past, usually catching two or three crabs. However, he had not caught any at the time of the incident. He saw a blue flower crab and followed it to catch it. He did not realise that he was swimming further and further away. The victim was not injured in the incident and apologised for disturbing the rescue personnel and reporters.
