Fatal motor bike accident in Tsam Chuk Wan, Sai Kung

Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident happened in Sai Kung yesterday (20/3), in which a 23-year-old man died. At around 10:38 pm, a motorcycle driven by the victim was travelling along Tai Mong Tsai Road towards Pak Tam Chung. Upon approaching near Tsam Chuk Wan, it reportedly lost control, rammed into a recycling bin and a lamp post on the roadside, and then slid on its side. Sustaining serious multiple injuries, the man was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state, and was certified dead at 11:33 pm on the same day.

The Yamaha R-3 motorcycle was travelling along Tai Mong Tsai Road towards Pak Tam Chung when the rider lost control when it reached a bend near Tsam Chuk Wan Village, hitting the roadside recycling bins and a lamppost. The motorcycle overturned and slid about 5 metres forward. The male driver fell to the ground with multiple injuries and was seriously injured.

According to chatter on local social media, the Yamaha YZF R-3 motorcycle, equipped with a 321c.c. engine, is very popular among drag racers. They also report that the deceased was travelling with a friend and passenger on another motorbike. When he drove his motorcycle to the bend at the site, he lost control, hit the lamppost and rubbish recycling bins on the roadside. The victim’s helmet, goggles, iPhone and sneakers were scattered all over the place. It was noted at the scene that the gear setting of the motorcycle was set at 6, which belongs to the highest speed band. After the accident, the friend on his motorbike which was following, saw the situation, and called the police.

The special investigation team of the Kowloon East Regional Traffic Department has taken over and followed up the case, and appeals to anyone who witnessed the accident or has information to provide, please call 3661-0262 to contact the investigators.
