26-year-old man rescued from the waters off Wong Shek Pier, Sai Kung but died after being taken to the hospital; suspected of being intoxicated

Around 10:15 pm last night (26/11), a man was seen floating in the sea about 20 metres off the Wong Shek Pier barbecue area in Sai Kung, and was suspected of having fallen into the sea and drowned.

Rescuers arrived at the scene and immediately pulled the man out of the water, but he was already unconscious. An ambulance took him to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment, but he was later pronounced dead after resuscitation efforts failed.

Following an investigation by the police, it is believed that the 26-year-old Nepalese man, holding a Hong Kong identity card, had been drinking alcohol before swimming in the sea, and it is suspected that he succumbed to the effects of the alcohol.

The case is being treated as “death on arrival at hospital.” It is understood that the deceased had been having a barbecue party with friends at the location before the incident.
