Police in Clear Water Bay impound 10 vehicles suspected of illegal modifications after receiving intelligence about a road race

Late last night (25/9) the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Traffic Enforcement and Control Unit of the East Kowloon Regional Headquarters launched an operation in the Clear Water Bay area to crack down on illegal racing.

Officers intercepted 15 suspicious private vehicles. Preliminary inspections revealed that 10 of them were suspected of illegal modifications, violating the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations, and they have been impounded at the Kowloon Bay Vehicle Inspection Centre for further inspection.

Police suspected that a group of illegally modified vehicles were gathering in the Clear Water Bay area around midnight and preparing for illegal road racing, and they deployed resources to target the vehicles and intercepted them before the race.

The East Kowloon Regional Traffic Department will continue to use different operational models to strengthen law enforcement in traffic black spots within the region, prevent and combat illegal racing and dangerous driving, and protect public safety while raising road users’ safety awareness.
