Paul Letters, who lives in Wong Chuk Wan Village, Sai Kung, will publish his first novel on 26 February.
A Chance Kill is historical fiction inspired by Paul’s grandmother who escaped across Europe in 1939 – 40.
“It’s great fun to take your head out of today’s world and into another time and place,” Paul said. “It’s not possible to be bored amid wartime escapes, snatched love affairs, RAF derring-do and young female spies parachuting into Nazi-occupied Europe.”
Ursula Huber, who owns Dymocks Sai Kung, said there would be a meet-the-author gathering and book-signing with Paul, 5-7.30pm, February 26 at her store.
Paul, aged 41, studied history, education, global affairs and literary journalism at the Universities of Cardiff, Oxford and Hong Kong. He worked at HKU as a senior researcher and works part-time as a history teacher and writer. His byline often appears on the op-ed page of the SCMP.
Paul said he is writing a second work of historical fiction. Set in war-time Hong Kong, “it is about forbidden love, clandestine resistance and a mass escape.”
