SKIP kindergarten will hold its first “Purple Cake Day” on Saturday, April 25, Manager Claire Ford said. It will start with a family and friends walk along a trail marked in purple. The walk, suitable for under 5s and stroller friendly, will start at the Lions Nature Centre and end at SKIP located on the peninsula above Hong Kong Marina.
“Come dressed in something purple,” Claire said. “We will have purple-themed food, drink and cakes for sale.” Proceeds will go to Purple Cake Day, a charity event about “kids helping kids”. Originating in New Zealand, the event aims to help three projects in Nepal, Haiti and Kenya, so children can receive education to break the cycle of poverty. It also backs the Sir Edmund Hilary Himalayan Trust operating in the remote Solokhumbu region of Nepal.

SKIP is a non-profit kindergarten with garden facilities near the trail to Trio Beach. Set up in 1988, the school is run by a small team of staff overseen by a committee of volunteer parents. 120 children attend the school, 20 at each session, with classes ranging from playgroups for one to three year olds, and kindergarten for three to five year olds.
