Sports events backed by the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club have raised $2.58 million so far this year, a club spokesman said. Four main events have been supported by the community outreach programme paying expenses and providing buses, venues and helpers:
CLEARWATER BAY CHASE
One thousand runners took part in the chase organised by Escapade Sports. More than 200 teams were made up of parents running with their children. Breakthrough, an organisation that supports liberal studies, benefited from $300,000 raised.
SPRING BAREFOOT WALK FOR CHILDREN
Just under 2000 walkers took part raising $1.4 million for aid to Sudanese refugees.
CHRISTIAN ACTION THREE-LEGGED WALK
A total of 550 people strapped their legs together and walked in aid of one of Hong Kong’s biggest charities, Christian Action, which is headed by Sai Kung’s Cheng Sieu Mei. The $500,000 raised goes to CA’s children’s homes in Qinghai.
CHILDREN’S THALASSAEMIA GOLF TOURNAMENT
The 76 golfers who joined in this tournament raised $380,000 for iron removal equipment and other support for thalassaemia patients.
The Clearwater Bay Club’s next charity event will be a mother’s day luncheon on May 21 for people from a home for the elderly, the spokesman said.
