Dylan Hughes, the O Tau and then Silverstrand resident, has moved to Africa as director of an international school there.

Dylan is the charismatic former Lower House principal of the Canadian International School where there has been considerable controversy recently. After a long-running dispute he was suspended, then fired, despite the much publicised protests of pupils, parents and other teachers.

On Facebook Dylan told all his friends he arrived in Africa for the first time about a month ago. Dylan is married to Ellen Manson, also a New Zealander, and they have a daughter, Mia.  Ellen said she will join Dylan in Africa soon after settling Mia in university. They hope it won’t be too long before they return to Sai Kung, she said.

Dylan has the kind of charm that leads to devotion in others. “There are few truly world class educators in the world and even fewer who inspire others to be not only better educators but better people,” wrote Jon Field. Another fan said, “Adversity makes us all stronger and friendship is our glue.”
