The pastor of Resurrection Church will introduce a new service for people who are traditional worship, or High Church, inclined from March 19. The Rev. Chris Ponniah said the new service at 8am will be additional to the contemporary 10am session.

“I realise there are people in Sai Kung who love a more traditional service,” Chris said. Liturgical worship and communion will form the basis of the early morning session at the Pak Sha Wan church. “We are aiming to be a community church where people can choose a worship that best meets their needs.”

Anglican High Church services are built around the “biblical word of God, prayers and communion. A sermon follows that is based on the scriptures read. Only hymns based on biblical text are sung. A community confession of sin follows. Then there is absolution where sinners repent, find forgiveness and are at peace with God.”

Chris will also conduct the 10am session that is a more relaxed coming together of worshippers as well as non-believers. These services are very musical. The church band plays with varying skill; the musicians are amateurs. At times it all clicks. Mums, dads, kids are swaying and singing lustily. The band is playing with smiling harmony and the lead singer is inspirationally belting out, “Lord, I Give You My Heart.”
