A foreign woman and a domestic worker who were sleeping in the villa during the burglary were uninjured.
A man aged between 30 and 40 was being hunted by the Hong Kong police after he broke into a villa in Sai Kung in New Territories East and stole cash and valuables on Thursday morning.
A security guard in Celestial Villa on Clear Water Bay Road called the police after he found that the position of a closed circuit camera outside a house had been moved, Sing Tao Daily reported.
The police said a burglar wearing a mask had cut barbed wire around the home at around midnight and stole HK$2,000 (US$257) cash, some foreign currency and a handbag and a pen worth HK$4,000 each.
