A police sting operation led to two taxi drivers being arrested on the weekend in the country park for over-charging. Senior Inspector Max Yip, second-in-command at the Sai Kung station, said one taxi driver charged plain-clothed officers $140 and the other $300 for taking them from the East Dam at High Island to Pak Tam Chung. The drivers were arrested, charged and are now on bail, while police enquiries continue.
The operation was carried out by officers from Traffic Headquarters at Kowloon East region, Max said. “Police will continue to mount various thematic operations to target this illegal activity in Sai Kung.”
Maureen Siu, District Officer, has said the Government is studying the potential for a new form of transport, such as enclosed golf buggy-like vehicles, in the country park at weekends and public holidays.
