Yesterday afternoon (22 July) a 23 year old woman was snorkeling off a beach on Bluff Island. During her dive, she was found to be unconscious in the water. Her friends called the police. The woman was rescued by the Marine Police and taken to High Island where she gained consciousness.. The Marine Police then took her to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment. After preliminary investigation, police believe that the incident was an accident.
Bluff Island, also known as Ung Kong Island, is next to Basalt Island, off Sai Kung and serviced by charter boats, taking about 1 hour to get to from Sai Kung pier. The water is 6 – 10 m deep, usually with clear visibility. The area is known for its coral reefs, and is a popular place for learning to dive or for holding diving activities.
