Upon entering the 11,000 sq. ft. campus, children were drawn to the indoor playground with two metal slides attached to a row of wooden huts. Three other themed play areas allow children to exercise motor skills, engage senses and express their creativity with paint and clay.
“Avendale’s play based curriculum enables our children to develop thinking skills in an environment where they will feel confident to take risks. Children will be supported in developing social and emotional capabilities, and nurtured as they cultivate 21st century skills,” said the principal, David Shirley.
With over 25 years of teaching and school leadership experience, Mr Shirley joined Avendale after serving as Head of Primary and Acting Head of School of an international school in Hong Kong. He said students flourished at school when they became “co-constructors of their learning.”
Avendale International Kindergarten provides children with a bilingual (English and Mandarin) learning environment designed to spark curiosity. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to learning, the kindergarten’s methods promote innovative thinking.
Children learn best when they establish mutual respect and are in positive relationships with their parents, teachers and peers.
Avendale Education offers playgroups and enrichment programmes, for children starting from 9 months, in English, Mandarin, and French. Apart from the campus at Tseung Kwan O, Avendale is planning to open two more campuses in the coming academic year located in Siu Sai Wan and Sai Wan.
