The first Women’s Wild Swimming event will be held on Friday, 17 August. The organiser is Jasmine Nunns of Kembali.org. Jasmine explains what it is all about:
“Women’s Wild swimming is an opportunity for women to come together and explore their personal relationship with Nature, empowered by other women.
“I have worked a long time in the outdoors, and while for many of us, we refer to, and understand the natural environment as being maternal, through ‘Mother Nature’, the outdoor space and work environment has, and in some ways still is a male dominated space. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, I wanted to create a safe, welcoming and non-threatening environment for women to explore their connection to Nature, with a more feminine approach, where they don’t need to worry about their physical abilities, and instead can step into their own power by celebrating the diversity of shared experiences women can have. We welcome children to come on these gatherings, and we let mothers know if the site will be suitable for young children to walk along too.
“This is part of community building, so there is no charge to join these gatherings. Instead we have an agreement that transport costs will be shared evenly if cars or taxis are taken to the site of the walk.
“I’m starting this as a monthly gathering, so for now we have 17 August, 21 September, 13 October and 9 November as our dates. To keep the groups intimate, and being aware of safety, as well as to be mindful of our impact on the land, we will limit the number to 10 people per gathering (depending on the rock pools we visit).
“There will not be any expectations of a workshop, these gatherings are not education focused, just an opportunity for women to reconnect with themselves, build a community with others, and reignite their relationship to Nature.”
