Andy Naylor memorial races, some of the toughest hill running in Hong Kong, are set for the end of this month at Clearwater Bay. The events are held annually to remember one of the greatest runners who ever burned up the tarseal in Sai Kung. Andy died after getting into difficulties in a Hudson River swim during a New York triathlon.

The “HardasNayls” races are scheduled for 29 to 30 September. They involve 50 km and 16 km runs on hill trails in Clearwater Bay and neighbouring areas as well as family runs of 8 km and 6 km. “The HardasNaysl Race is a very fitting way to remember Andy,” his wife Lynn said. “I don’t think he would have hoped for more.”

The charity benefiting this year is Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation. It is $550 to take part in the marathons and $350 (adult and child team) for the family runs. Each race is limited to 250 entrants.

The HardasNayls runs, developed over the past three years after Andy’s shock death, are very much family events as Andy would have wanted on the hill trails that he loved. After the racing there will be a “Family Day Kidzone” with performances by the MeekBoyz trick cyclists, the UV Kid Disco with Kid DJs plus face painting and an animal corner.
