Sai Kung’s 14-year-old fighter Brindy Mason has arrived in Long Beach, California, to compete in the World Brazilian Ju-jitsu Championships.  Brindy is representing New Zealand as a member of the national team. Her well-known man-about-town father, Vaughan is with her.

Brindy is aiming to win the world championship title. She has a good chance of accomplishing this feat, because on the way to winning the New Zealand National Championships a few months ago she choked the current world champion into surrendering.  Asked by BUZZ how many fights she expects, she said, “Three at most, two at least.” It depends on how well she does.

How does she feel representing New Zealand in the 20-strong national team? “I feel very very honoured.”

How well prepared physically is she for the challenge of fighting in the world championships?  “I am the fittest and strongest I have ever been.”

How ready is she psychologically, BUZZ asked? “I have confidence, but I am nervous. I’ve worked very hard to be ready to compete. Even if I lose it doesn’t matter. I know I have done my best.” The Long Beach World Ju-Jitsu Championships are a two-day affair. After Sunday Sai Kung will know whether we have a new world champion.

BUZZ told her Sai Kung is very proud of her, we are with her in spirit and win or lose, we will celebrate her success.
