The Rev. Chris Ponniah, an asset to the community during his short time here

The Reverend Chris Ponniah has announced his resignation as Pastor of Resurrection Church, Pak Sha Wan, Sai Kung. In an email he cited “unforeseen circumstances”. Chris said he will return with his wife to New Zealand where he lived for 12 years and has two adult children.

Chris Ponniah was an active and imaginative church leader. He inaugurated the Remembrance Day ceremony held this month in Man Yee Square. For churchgoers who like the more serious side of Anglicanism he instituted a High Church service at 8:00 am before the 10:00 am service which is more relaxed and musical. Chris expanded the Church’s rented premises at Pak Sha Wan to make it more of a community centre.

Chris was an asset to the community in his short time here. New Zealand wins. We lose.

Farewell in all its meanings, Chris.
