Cow, with young calf, fatally wounded by taxi on Tai Mong Tsai Road

Sai Kung Cattle’s Angels (SKCA) reported on their Facebook page on 26 December that, at around 1:00 am on Boxing Day a taxi hit a cow near The Capri on Tai Mong Tsai Road.

The incident was captured by a dash cam and posted online –  see below.

The accident broke the rear right foot of the cow, which ran off followed by its young calf. It took around nearly a day for AFCD and SKCA to find the poor beast. Police are following up the incident using footage from the dash-cam video.

In a sad update, when AFCD found the cow she was so badly injured that they had no choice but to euthanise her. The little calf will be hand reared at AFCD.

Many local residents have seen this cow and her young calf over the past ten days or so, and posted photos online. There are a number of other mothers and calves around the Country Park at this time of year. Please take care when driving along the local roads frequented by feral cattle.
