Police are still trying to identify the body of a woman found floating about 500 m off Sai Kung Pier yesterday morning (14 June). Just after 10:00 am someone found the body off the pier and called the police. The Marine Police confirmed the death at the scene. After preliminary investigations, they could not identify the cause of death, and will await an autopsy.
The Marine Police said that the body was that of a woman aged between 50 to 60 years old and “had a fat body, short black hair, and a black shirt and trousers” (translation). The body was later sent to the Sai Kung Marine Police Base.
There was no identity document on the deceased and they are still trying to confirm the identity of the victim.
UPDATE
Police have identified the deceased after a sweep by marine and land police. A bag, slippers and her ID were found at Sha Ha beach, one nautical mile from where body found.
She’s an ex-Sai Kunger who moved to Shatin some years ago. She swan every morning at Sai Kung. The family have been contacted. Pending an autopsy there is nothing to show it was a suspicious death.
