Mini Cooper and prison van in collision near Razor Hill – update

A traffic accident occurred on Clear Water Bay Road near Pik Uk this morning causing traffic delays into Kowloon.  Around 8:00 am a Correctional Services Department vehicle was nearing the Pik Uk Correctional Institution when it crossed the road and hit a Mini Cooper car near the junction with Razor Hill Road.

The accident caused the airbags in the Mini to discharge, injuring the 35-year–old woman driver. Police reported that she was complaining of head, chest and back pain, and she was taken to hospital by an ambulance. The fronts of the two vehicles were damaged in the collision. No prison officer in the van, or any of the passengers, were injured. Another van was sent to collect the occupants of the damaged vehicle.

Police are investigating the incident.

UPDATE: The Correctional Services Department said that the vehicle was carrying three remand inmates from the Pik Uk Correctional Institution to court. During the incident, a prisoner and two correctional officers were slightly injured in the legs and neck. They were not required to be admitted to the hospital after being examined and treated by the hospital. The three inmates were subsequently escorted to the relevant court on the same morning.
