Phase One of the new Tuen Ma line will open on Valentine’s Day next month, Housing and Transport Secretary Frank Chan said. It is part of the $99 billion Shatin to Central Link and will have three stations, Hing Keng, Diamond Hill station extension and Kai Tak.
Train frequency at Peak times will be 3.5 mins, Mr Chan said. Journey time from Tai Wai to Diamond Hill will be just nine minutes. Phase Two from Kai Tak to Hung Hom is expected to be operating by the end of next year and the final phase through to Central thereafter.
As part of the Shatin to Central Link project it will connect the West Rail and Ma On Shan lines via six new stations. The line will have 27 stations on completion, more than any other in the MTR system, its most expensive so far. The shoddy construction scandal at Hung Hom has inflated the project’s cost.
