Art Basel 2020 will go ahead in Hong Kong despite some galleries pulling out because of the protests, the organisers say in a press release. A total of 242 galleries will show their wares and creations at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 19, 20 and 21 March when the public will be let in.

A feature of the art exhibition, the press release says, will be a section called “Encounters” themed “While We are Here”. In a statement worthy of Private Eye’s Pseuds Corner, Curator Alexie Glass-Kantor explains: “The context in which we live shapes the way we approach the present moment. Our cultural context, experiences and histories are constantly shifting to create new forms of vernacular knowledge. ‘While We Are Here’ will reflect on the impact we have on the world around us and what impact the world we live in has on ourselves.”
