A book that will raise the eyebrows of “normal” people will soon by published by Simon and Schuster. “Men Who Hate Women” exposes secretive, extremist communities that despise women. Author Laura Bates investigates groups such as Men’s Rights Activists, Pick Up Artists, Men Going Their Own Way, Trolls and the Incel (Involuntary celibate) movement, in whose name terrorist acts have been committed.
Laura Bates is a feminist writer who founded the Everyday Sexism Project, in which women chronicle their experiences. In “Men Who Hate” Bates looks at what attracts men to these movements and how they groom and radicalise boys. She writes they have moved from the dark corners of the internet to mainstream media, playgrounds and even Parliament.
The Incel movement has chapters in many western countries. Incels can’t find a romantic or sexual partner despite seeking one. Discussions online cover resentment, misogyny, misanthropy and self-loathing. Incels are mostly male and heterosexual although one of the founders was female. Incels can endorse violence against sexually active people. Four mass murders and 45 deaths have been attributed to Incels in North America.
