65-year-old hiker in Long Ke Wan collapses from heat exhaustion and helicoptered to hospital

The toll of unprepared hikers being hospitalised grew yesterday when a 65-year-old man collapsed near Long Ke Wan in Sai Kung Country Park around 3:00 pm yesterday (19/4) afternoon.

The 65-year-old man, hiking along the mountainous path with five friends suddenly felt uncomfortable and fainted. Owing to the dangerous terrain emergency services sent a helicopter to assist in the rescue and it took him to the Eastern Hospital for emergency treatment. The man regained consciousness after being admitted to the hospital. He was said to be suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration.

According to the HK Observatory, the highest temperature in that area was around 30 ° C. Although the Observatory did not issued a warning for extremely hot weather, they remind the public that the heat may affect their health and they must always be vigilant and take plenty of water.
