101M minibus driver falls asleep at the wheel

Social media was abuzz yesterday when a 101M minibus passenger posted a photo on Facebook seemingly showing the driver dropping off to sleep whilst driving. According to the post, the passengers on the bus were very frightened. One of them immediately awakened the driver but was scolded for her troubles.

A netizen posted on social media, claiming that while taking an 101m minibus from Hang Hau to Sai Kung, they witnessed that the driver’s head was leaning towards the right hand side, and looked like he had fallen asleep. “It looked like he was driving steadily, but it’s his posture that worried me.”

An older woman sitting nearby also noticed this, and tried to wake the driver up. However the driver denied he was sleeping, “If I had fallen asleep, the vehicle would not have been moving!”.

The netizen found the driver’s response quite helpless. They doubted any other scenarios other than falling sleep where the driver would need to keep such a weird posture, “He had been keeping this posture for the entire journey. Is it due to his health issues?”

They doubted the driver would just want to cover up the fact that he had fallen asleep. Other netizens also replied that they had encountered the same driver fallen sleep before, and had tried to clear his eyes when the minibus was on the Hiram’s Highway, “The minibus nearly hit the barrier”. It seems this was not an isolated incident for this particular driver.
