Local social media was abuzz last week with photos circulated on Facebook purportedly showing a frustrated mother shoving her child into a large garbage bin. This aroused great anger from netizens and called into question some of the more questionable parenting techniques of Hong Kong residents.
Sai Kung netizens shared photos claiming that a mother picked up a young boy and dropped him into a large trash bin as punishment. They also claimed that the child “screamed very loudly.” Many netizens think that the mother behaved excessively when they saw the photos; they were also worried that the child would be infected with any bacteria in the trash bin and get sick within minutes
The incident occurred in Sai Kung. It can be seen from the photo that a woman is wearing a baseball cap and holding a child in her hand. The two are believed they are mother and child.
As soon as the post came out, it caused heated discussions and were reposted to multiple groups and discussion areas. Many netizens criticized the woman involved in being brutal and inhumane. They bluntly said that she was suspected of child abuse, and she had a chance to cause psychological damage to the child.
