Author, commentator and strategist Peter G. de Krassel yesterday (13/7) launched a global tenants’ rights advocacy campaign calling for a re-think about the way rents are charged globally. He previewed a chapter from his upcoming book Custom Maid Backspin for New World Disorder that proclaims it is time to address and constructively change diverse and rampant rent policies globally – starting in Hong Kong. Drawing on his experience as a lawyer, developer, landlord and tenant, de Krassel proposes a solution based on rent subsidization that is equitable for tenants and landlords alike. He proposes a model piece of legislation for Hong Kong with international relevance that sweeps out the old rent control laws and the rabid free market economy policies decimating families and businesses.
Simultaneously, de Krassel kicked off The Breaking Rent Matters global online survey, which gives renters, landlords, developers, government representatives, lenders and religious and other charities the opportunity to share their suggestions on how to implement fair rental policies. The views and opinions of hundreds of thousands of stakeholders in the rent debate internationally will be collected and analysed to discover the commonalities and differences across the various interest groups and geographies.

July 2021 marks the 16th anniversary of the release of his book Custom Maid Spin for New World Disorder, “Backspin is an attempt to try and better understand what happened between 9/11 and 1/6, to connect political, religious, legal and sexual dots along the path that led to the attack on the US Capitol, where a joint session of both houses of Congress was in session to certify the Electoral College vote to put President Joe Biden in the White House, says de Krassel. “His predecessor, Donald Trump later faced his second impeachment trial, for inciting the insurrection and attack on American democracy, the first president to be impeached after leaving office – and ‘really, why is it China’s fault?’” asks de Krassel.
De Krassel’s blogs, starting from 2005, through to the publication of Backspin, are signposts that mapped down political, religious, legal, sexual paths and freeways, not only in America, but China and rest of the world. This book captures and crystalizes those pointers to show how We the Maids allowed the career politicians we elected to serve lead us to this mess — and to an even worse world disorder that is looming on the horizon.
“We have to look way out and way back, so that we are better equipped to look way in, at our country and ourselves. The present is the product of the past. The future will be the product of the present that we create,” de Krassel wrote in the introduction to Spin.
Past reviewers and critics agree that the book is more relevant today than when first published and an essential MUST read for people to understand how they must bring an end to Cancel Culture and Identity Politics in order to bring about Real Change!
