Pai Tau Tun

A hiking accident occurred in Sai Kung yesterday afternoon (3/7). At about 2:00 pm today police received a report that a 21-man Scout team, originally scheduled to go to the High Island Reservoir, had encountered some problems with two of its members suffering heat stroke when they had reached Pai Tau Tun. The 14 Scouts and 7 mentors had set off at 10:00 am from Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung. The Observatory issued a very hot weather warning at 11:15 am.

One of the party, a 24 year old Scout, had fainted, and another man, a 53 year old mentor, was also suspected of being unwell and had gone into a coma in the extreme heat. A Government Flying Service helicopter arrived at the scene and flew the two people to Eastern District Hospital for treatment. The 24-year-old was certified dead on arrival. The older man recovered consciousness in hospital.
