Family of woman killed by speedboat propeller files a claim against its owner

Nearly two years ago, on 19 October 2019, a woman fell into the sea from a speedboat in Tai Long Sai Wan, Sai Kung. She was hit by the propeller and was seriously injured. She was sent to hospital by helicopter but later died. 

The family of the deceased, 52-year-old Pauling Hung Siu-woon, filed a claim in the High Court on Monday (13/9) against the owner, Frederic Dong Bo, and the helmsman of the speedboat involved, alleging that his negligence and dereliction of duty caused the accident. The petition did not specify the amount of compensation.

According to the filing, on 19 October 2019, the deceased, and around a dozen friends, took the speedboat named “Miss Conduct Junior” to sea. They played water sports before taking the speedboat to the beach. Hung fell into the sea when it was quite rough.
