Good food, good music and good company helped raise a record amount for Sai Kung animal welfare organisations
A total of $78,050 was raised by the recent Hong Kong Buzz Concert for the Animals hosted by Tikitiki Bowling Bar. A TBB spokesman said 193 people bought tickets, so $28,050 was collected for Catherine’s Puppies, Emily Allington’s Hong Kong Cats and Sai Kung Lost Found Injured Animals, co-founded by Carol Biddell (TBB kept 40 per cent of ticket sales to cover its costs). Attendance at the third Concert for the Animals was down, because Tropical Storm LionRock chose that night to strike. The lucky draw organised splendidly by Catherine took in about $30,000, while sponsors Pets Central and Homevet contributed $15,000 and $5000 respectively.
The people who did brave the weather had a wonderful time. First they were charmed by Sai Kung Mini-singers who sang and danced with their faces painted as kittens or puppies, then the bands began to play. James and the Potato Heads hit the microphones and the amplifiers and we learned Sai Kung has a new star musician, James Hall. They were followed by Hudson Hornet and Jimmy2Times whose performances were interspersed by the lucky draw narrated by Rob Archibald. The Tikitiki turned on a delicious vegetarian buffet in its world-class bowling alley, bar and restaurant complex.
The organising committee included Jim Lewis, Arndt Borchert, Catherine Lumsden, Emily Allington, Carol Biddell, Peter de Krassel and Roger Medcalf.
