All admirers of the British Empire, all lovers of Winston Churchill, all who miss our Queen with deep sorrow are invited to the British Consul-General’s Residence on the Peak on 24 June. The occasion is Royal Commonwealth Society Hong Kong’s charity concert, “An Evening of British Songs & Airs, Commonwealth Wines and Canapes”. The society was formerly headed by Sai Kung resident Peter J. Mann MBE, now vice president.
It seems that anyone can attend: members of the RCS pay $650, guests $800. Attendees will hear a performance by soprano Elizabeth Coupe accompanied by pianist Jessie Lau. The event, whose proceeds will go to The Hong Kong Blind Union, is sponsored by British Consul-General Brian Davidson CMG and St James Place Hong Kong, the wealth management firm whose principals include Sai Kung resident David Hughes.

The Royal Commonwealth Society has a busy calendar of events for the rest of this year: in August, summer drinks at the WWII Veteran’s Association Club House; in September a cocktail reception at the residence of the New Zealand Consul-General Peter Lund; in October a members only dinner at the Harilela Mansion; in November the Commonwealth Cricket at Kowloon Cricket Club and in December the RCS Christmas Party at the Helena May.
Anyone who shares the RCS commitment to “build a Commonwealth community in Hong Kong based on different ethnicity and culture, mutual respect and understanding” can join: Young Fellows $250 p.a.; Fellows $500; couples $750 and corporations (three nominees) $1200.
