Late yesterday evening, around 10:00 pm (17/3), police received a report from the public that a private car was seen submerged in the sea at a rocky beach in Tai Mong Tsai, Sai Kung, and the front of the car had almost disappeared under the water. The police arrived at the scene to investigate and found camping items on the shore, and fearing that someone in the car might be drowning, called the fire department to assist in the search, but found nothing.

The police contacted the owner of the Mini, and he told them that he had lent the car to a friend a few days ago. The reason for the car being on the beach was unknown.

It is understood that the Mini involved was driven to the rocky beach in the afternoon. The driver was thought to be camping above the site. It is suspected that a tyre got stuck in the sand and mud and could not move. By the time the incident was reported the tide had risen and the car was submerged.

Later, in the early morning today, several photos were circulated on the Internet, showing that a group of men using another vehicle to successfully drag the drowned Mini Cooper to shore with iron chains. They cheered and took pictures, looking very happy.
