Solar roof proves a nice little earner – update one year on

This time last year, BUZZ paid a visit to Ben at his village house in Kap Pin Long to learn about his then recently-installed solar roof structure.  A week or so ago we caught up with Ben to review its performance during the first year.

The estimate from the installation company was a return of HK$40,000-43,000 pa.  Ben actually received HK$41,000 for the period which maintains the expectation of payback in a little over three years of his investment of HK$130,000.

Each of his two-month domestic power bills from CLP contains a credit for power received by CLP during the period.  A few days later a cheque arrives for the value of the power received by CLP, less his domestic consumption.  Simple, efficient, rewarding.

If you’re interested in joining the scheme, be quick, as rumour has it that it’s to finish within a year or so. Take a look at the original story for further details of how to join.
