Around 7:00 am this morning (24/20), an empty tour bus travelling along the Hiram’s Highway towards Kowloon went out of control and hit a lamppost. The 68-year-old driver suffered a head injury and was knocked unconscious. Passers-by called the police. The driver was sent to the hospital by ambulance but unfortunately he was dead on arrival.
Initial enquiries have not ruled out that the driver fainted and caused the accident, but the actual cause is to be determined. An autopsy has been confirmed. Traffic along Hiram’s Highway was congested for some hours.

It is understood that the deceased, who lived in Kwun Tong, started work as usual this morning. After picking up the bus in Sai Kung he was diving towards Kowloon to pick up students when he crashed near Pak Sha Wan. The deceased had high blood pressure and had recently had surgery and was on medication. According to the family, the deceased reported to the police yesterday that he was unwell.
