19-year-old youth fatally drowns at Four Pools, Sai Kung

A fatal drowning accident occurred at Four Pools, Sheung Luk, Sai Kung East Country Park on Monday (7/8) afternoon. Police received a report around 3:25 pm that a 19-year-old youth had drowned in one of the rock pools at the popular beauty spot. He was rescued by others, but fell into a coma. Emergency services rushed to the scene and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the unconscious teen. A Government Flying Service helicopter, took the young man to the Eastern District Hospital for emergency treatment.

He was in a coma when he arrived to the hospital and medical staff used an automatic cardiac compressor to give him first aid, but he died around 5:00 pm. The cause of death is yet to be determined after an autopsy.

It is understood that the 19-year-old victim was a Filipino citizen with a Hong Kong ID card. He went to Sai Kung with a group of four friends, during which the victim swam alone in No. 3 Pool; his friends went on to No. 4 pool. Not long after, when one of the friends turned back, he saw the victim was missing and immediately jumped into the pool, and found the victim had sunk at the bottom of the pool. He pulled him out and shouted for help, which alerted the hikers to call the police.
