The area where the assault took place in Ko Tung, Sai Kung
Sai Kung resident Mark Doel was assaulted at Ko Tung in the country park on Wednesday 15 May and a week later the police seem to have done very little about it.
Mark was running with two dogs, Sai Kung pedigrees, on the path from Uk Tau in the country park that runs down to the pier and an abandoned pier where there is an ancient village. An African man squats in one of the houses. He normally walks up the path to the bus stop. “He shouts abuse, videos me, claims he owns the land and says he will report me to the police,” Mark said. “By his actions you would think he is not all there upstairs. As I was running down he was coming up. Ignored him and ran past down to the pier at To Kwa Peng, then turned around to run back home. As I got to the bottom of the hill, he was standing there. He must have followed me. He started shouting abuse. Then he took a big walking stick, took his backpack off, took his t-shirt off and said ‘I’m going to teach you a lesson’. With both hands he swings the stick like a baseball bat. He hits me on the right arm above the elbow and knocks me to the ground. The stick snapped on impact. I scrambled backward, grabbing the dogs’ leads. They did nothing.”

“I got to my feet. He went to swing at me again and realised he had only half a stick. He stopped. He shouted more abuse at me. I ran off. My arm swelled up like a golf ball. There was no break, just bruising. I ran home and called the police to get it on record. A police van arrived with four officers. They asked me what happened and took photos of my injuries. I walked them down to the place where the attack happened, and pointed out the house where he lives. One of the officers went there but he wasn’t there. The police called an ambulance. I went to Tseung Kwan O hospital A&E. The doctor bandaged me and gave me some cream.”
“While I was at A&E police from CID Wong Tai Sin came to see me. They took photos of my injuries and a statement. That was that,” Mark said.
“I have called Wong Tai Sin police station every day for an update. Just got an answering machine. On Monday I got through to a woman police officer. She suggested I get a photo of him. I could get attacked again, so I did not think this was a good idea. I asked to speak to a senior officer. Not available. There has been no call back. This is where we are a week later.”
“Yesterday I went to Sai Kung police station to try to speed things up and get a response from Wong Tai Sin police station. They said they would ask Wong Tai Sin to get back to me. It seems Wong Tai Sin and Sai Kung are not talking to each other. Next time it could be a family with kids who are attacked.”
BUZZ has learned that the suspect has been convicted of similar assaults in the past and that there are reports from other victims, some quite recently.
