At 6:55 am today (22/5), a fire broke out in a village house in Luk Mei Village, Sai Kung, with smoke billowing to the skyline. Nearby villagers, alerted by the smoke, reported the incident to emergency services.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and sent a search and rescue team to assist in the evacuation of eight nearby villagers, and used hoses to put out the fire. No one was injured in the incident.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a short circuit in the electrical wiring in the kitchen caused the fire. The cause of the fire is not suspicious.
