Sai Kung’s battle of the restaurateurs is about to boom

Man Yee Square is the centre of the Sai Kung foodie scene

The Battle of the Restaurateurs is about to begin. Sai Kung’s Man Yee Square will see an eatery revolution. Established players – Big Fish with its consistent quality, The Conservatory with imaginative dishes, and 28 with the best-value food, have been joined recently by Sing’s second restaurant Square, which is well designed.

The collapse of the Castelo Concepts – widow Audrey Parfitt must have been unable to cope after the late Wayne left her with about 90 restaurants – means new players will soon move in to the Square on the sites of Piccolo’s and the once-heaving Jaspas. Who those new contenders in the Battle of the Restaurateurs will be we have yet to see.

Lobster Une is the latest entrant to the Sai Kung restaurant makeover

One possibility is Momentai, whose present store on the waterfront is hidden away and not good enough for its owners Nikko and Courtney, who were unaccountably denied an extension of leases on the restaurants they ran so well on the seashore near the Pier by the burons* .

Latest entrant is Lobster Une, whose seafood we have yet to try, but have noted their beer price is stratospheric. Beneficiaries of the new competition will be you and me, the foodies. And as always the landlords.

* A buron is a cross between a bureaucrat and a moron.
