Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell to amuse us next month in H.K.Players panto

“Peter Pan: Return to Neverland” will be staged at Hong Kong Arts Centre from 29 November to 8 December. Many of the cast in the Hong Kong Players pantomime will be dressed as gayly as the characters in “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”. The show will deliver for audiences classic panto magic, outrageous humour*, combat on stage, thrilling dance moves, sweet melodies from the live band and even crowd participation.

Peter Pan, Wendy and the Gang battle Captain Hook and his hapless pirates. The tension builds. Can Peter and Wendy prevail with the help of their feisty fairy friend Tinkerbell, Dame Fishy Nets and the Lost Children?

It’s all wholesome fun, but as quite a bit of it is undoubtedly gay, we quote the Mel Brooks character, Roger Elizabeth de Bris and his comical team:

“If at the end you want them to cheer
Keep it gay, keep it gay, keep it gay
Whether it’s Hamlet, Othello or Lear
Keep it gay, keep it gay, keep it gay

Comedy’s joyous, a constant delight
Dramas annoy us and ruin our night
So keep your Strindbergs and Ibsens at bay

 I’ll sign . . . Sign . . . Sign . . .

Keep it gay!”

Roger Elizabeth de Bris

* For outrageous humour, it is hard to do better than “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”. Bernadette, a drag queen, is slagging off a rival drag queen, and says to her, “Why don’t you light your tampon and blow your box apart, because, darling, that’s the only bang you’re ever going to get.”
